The HANNYA ( or Hanya) is in Japanese mythology, the demonic manifestation of a woman´s furious jealous anger! Yikes.

A very popular motif used in Japanese tattoos, either depicted the beast herself, or more commonly, the Hannya mask worn by actors in Noh Theatre, often recognizable by the "strings" attached to the ears of the mask to secure it to the face of the actor.

While this one has no strings attached ( pun somewhat intended) it is certainly in the style of the Hannya mask, which is generally simplified and stylized.

Measuring around 84cm at the tallest, and 75 cm at its widest point, this wooden cutout is made with acrylic non toxic paint, on 12mm birch plywood, and is 12mm thick.

Hardware on the back secures it to the wall, and despite its size, it weighs very little.

A bold piece of wall art for lovers of Japanese mythology!
